Episode Summary

Did you know that the average woman applies over 168 chemicals to her skin every day before lunch from only nine products? If you’re not careful, each of these could harbor major endocrine disruptors. With this in mind, I’ve brought on an expert guest to help us understand the harmful effects of these chemicals and how to avoid them so that we can have the healthiest skin possible as we age.

The Connection of Everything to Your Skin

In this episode, Dr. Cates explains how your skin is an indicator of your overall health. You can’t see inside your body, but you can see your skin. Eczema, for example, is often a sign that there is an inflammatory issue in the gut. When you learn to recognize skin issues as signs of something deeper, you can address the root cause of the problem rather than just treat the symptom.

Like your gut, your skin also has its own microbiome. Your gut microbiome is an important part of keeping your skin microbiome healthy. To heal many gut problems, Dr. Cates recommends identifying your triggers, such as dairy, and avoiding them while healing.

Pay Attention to What Goes on Your Skin

While what you put in your body is important, so is what you put on it. There are countless topical products that can totally mess up your hormones. Dr. Cates asks us to think of the products that we use each day. These are the products that your body never gets a break from. It’s important that what you use are clean, fully organic, and non-toxic.
