Smoothies are a quick, easy, and delicious way to fit extra servings of fruits and vegetables into your day, and they’re great for on-the-go meals and snacks. This is one of my favorite springtime smoothies, because you can get perfect produce this time of year that packs in antioxidants from the berries, vitamins from the spinach, minerals from the banana, and healthy fat from the almond butter. Not only will you feel fuller longer with the healthy fat, but it helps your body absorb and digest minerals from the veggies, making this smoothie a great way to start your day out right!
Berry Banana Green Smoothie
Serves 2
- 2 cups spinach
- 1 cup water
- 3⁄4 cup frozen blackberries
- 3⁄4 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 small frozen banana, chopped
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
Place the spinach and water in a blender. Start blending on low, and as the spinach begins to break down, increase to medium speed until it is completely broken down and smooth. Add the blackberries, blueberries, banana, and almond butter, and blend on medium to high speed until the desired consistency is achieved, about 1 minute. Serve immediately.
This is another recipe from The DASH Diet Cookbook.
Blackberries + banana = great combination for spring smoothie. Here in the Czech republic, we still have to wait for fresh blackberries, which are much more tasteful than those available for supermarkets 🙂
