How to Balance Your Hormones in 14 Days

The driving force behind my helping women achieve optimal hormone health was admittedly born of my own struggles.

I was diagnosed with a crippling inflammatory autoimmune disease and knew that the way I was living was not going to get me well. Something needed to dramatically change, and everything I had tried to alleviate my symptoms by this point had failed me. 

It was during that time that I initially felt lost in my own health struggles. I felt alone in my plight like many women do today. 

I didn’t know exactly what was fueling my autoimmune response, but I knew that certain foods were impairing my gut, and they had to go.

As I eliminated the big inflammatory players for several weeks, I started to get my energy back and I felt like I had my life back. I remember crying tears of relief that I cracked the code to my illness and I was on the road towards healing.

I was actually able to rescue my hormones. 🙂 

And I want that for you, too! Because as they say, healed people heal people. And my healing came as a result of focusing on the trailblazing trifecta of hormones, which is at the core of every book and program I offer:

You may think health is out of reach or just not “who you are.” Conversely, you may tie your goal-setting to a specific outcome, rather than your identity. For example, you may make dietary changes strictly for the outcome of weight loss

Your current habits are a reflection of who you believe you are at this moment. The key to creating new, healthy habits that stick is recognizing that health is not about achieving a specific outcome, but a nonlinear, liberating journey that focuses on CHOOSING to nourish your mind and body — not white-knuckling your way through restrictions.

And until you change your core beliefs about yourself and how you relate to your own health, you will likely keep hitting the same roadblocks that derailed your progress in the past.

So before we even get to the diet changes and other recommendations that will balance your hormones and change your life, there are a few very important phrases I need you to repeat after me:

  • I deserve to be well. 
  • I deserve to honor my body with self-care. 
  • I deserve to fuel my body with the right foods.

Mindset is everything. If you don’t own this time of healing, you won’t see the same results. Make a conscious effort every day to repeat those affirmations as you walk through your healing journey. Health is not about achieving a specific outcome but finding your identity in choosing to love your mind and body enough to nourish them with what it needs.


Simply put, food is the ticket to cutting inflammation in a majority of cases. The foods you are eating are either fueling your healing or only worsening your symptoms (and health). 

There is no in-between.

I know it can be hard to let go of certain foods. I definitely struggled at first. But let me tell you — living a full, energized life (with balanced hormones!) is way more valuable than those foods that are holding you back! 

So, with this in mind, these are the foods that are most likely to cause inflammation in your body that you should eliminate completely:

  • red meat & conventionally-produced meat
  • caffeinated beverages (except for green tea)
  • corn (due to glyphosate sensitivity)
  • dairy
  • processed foods and fats (hydrogenated vegetable oil, artificial trans fats)

Removing all of them may seem daunting, but I have a helpful way to ease yourself into this plan in my book

You may be wondering what is left to eat. It is easier than you think if you focus on whole foods, with plant-based nutrition and clean proteins. Trust me, there are still plenty of delicious, hormone-loving foods that will fuel your body as you heal! Part 3 of The Essential Oils Menopause Solution is packed with helpful recipes to get you going.


#1: Eat Protein at Each Meal

Aim for 60-70g of protein each day. If you need a little help achieving your daily protein goal, my Paleo Daily Protein packs a big punch with 21g of protein per serving and also promotes healthy skin, nails, and hair!

#2: Eat a Minimum of 7 Servings of Vegetables Each Day

I know, it sounds like a lot. The meal plan in my book is designed to cover your vegetable quota, so it’s an easy way to make sure you are getting them all in!

#3: Eliminate Sugar and Sugar Substitutes

The only approved sweetener is stevia. I know this one is particularly challenging. I’ve been there! This is why Crave Reset is just what you need to help you curb those cravings, especially at the beginning of your health journey.

#4: Eat Only Low-Glycemic Index Fruits

Like apples, berries, avocados, olives, lemons, and limes.

#5: Start Weaning Off Caffeine and Alcohol Before You Make Other Changes

This will make it a smoother transition into the Rescue Plan if you’re not dealing with the withdrawals at the same time as changing your diet. #6: Eat Every 4 to 6 Hours Without Snacking in Between

If you feel hungry between meals, drink 16 oz water mixed with a tablespoon of chia seeds. This will help curb your hunger!

#7: Eat Mindfully

Without rushing, and without distraction. Let your mind and body appreciate what you are eating without any added stress. Chew slowly. Count to 100 with each bite if it helps!

#8: Use Essential Oils to Keep You on Track

Making (and sticking to) any drastic change can be hard. I’m not going to lie — you will probably crave some of those not-so-good foods as you go about balancing your hormones. The good news is, essential oils can (and are actually proven to) help with overeating and food cravings! Here is my favorite blend to kill those cravings instantly to keep your healing on track!

Crave Control Rollerball Blend

7 drops Peppermint essential oil
7 drops Grapefruit essential oil
3 drops Ginger essential oil
3 drops Cinnamon Bark or Cassia essential oil

Add essential oils to a 10ml glass rollerball bottle. Top off with the carrier oil of choice, replace the top, cap, and swirl to combine. Roll the blend over your palms, cup your hands over your nose and mouth, and take 3-5 belly breaths to instantly curb cravings.


Food is just one facet that you may need to change in order to heal your body and restore your hormone balance. Stress, however, is another enemy of hormone synergy. So, along with a healthier diet, self-care is something we must not overlook. 

When you hear “self-care,” you may envision a long bath with candles, a magazine, and no interruptions. While that is one form of self-care, what I actually mean by self-care is creating daily habits to take care of yourself so you stay physically, mentally, and emotionally well. 

Sometimes it’s a long bath, but sometimes it’s driving past Starbucks because the high sugar content adversely affects your mood and energy level. Sometimes it’s a massage, but sometimes it’s practicing deep breathing while enforcing a boundary with a family member.

What else is self-care?

  • Self-care is giving yourself permission to pause — even if it’s just for 5 minutes.
  • Self-care is practicing better stress management for better mind and body performance.
  • Self-care is moving your body intentionally every day, whether through yoga, walking, or some other workout.
  • Self-care is establishing rituals that fuel your soul and energize you to take on the day ahead.
  • Self-care is taking supplements to fill in the gaps where your body needs it.
  • Self-care is using essential oils to promote a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

But self-care does not just magically happen overnight. It takes daily awareness and small changes to become second nature in your life.
