Benefits of Using an Infrared Sauna

What if I told you that regardless of how many workouts you get in or the number of green smoothies you sip, if your day-to-day lifestyle doesn’t include sauning, you’re not only missing out on something great, your health isn’t what it could be either.

I know that’s a bold claim, but so many people believe that to be healthy all they need to do is focus on diet and exercise, and while those are two very important things, they’re not the only things that go into making your body run right.

You see, you also need good quality sleep, mental and emotional well-being, a strong immune system, healthy skin, a way to relieve stress and pain, and a good detoxification process.

Now, I know that you can get some of these things from diet, exercise, and supplements, but did you know that you can also get these things with a good sit-in and infrared sauna?

It’s true, and it’s why I want to share the benefits of sauning with you.

Because even if you’re too exhausted to get in a workout or cook a diet-friendly meal, you should have enough energy for a sauna session. After all, it will allow you to relax, gather your thoughts, have a moment for yourself, and support your body all at the same time. Plus, it’s safe and easy to use.

When I think about my experience with the Sunlighten infrared sauna and how much of a difference it’s made in my life, I realize that it’s one of my favorite self-care methods. It’s luxurious and peaceful, and after a day of notifications pinging and unwanted spam calls ringing, it’s the perfect retreat. My little oasis.

Here are six of the top reasons why I make my sauna time a priority:

Top Benefits of Using The Infrared Sauna

#1: Detoxing and lymphatic drainage

As you go about your daily life, you expose your skin to a lot of rough stuff. Chemicals and metals are in everything from the products you use in the shower to the make-up you put on your face. And some of these chemicals and metals are toxic, hormone-disrupting, and linked to multiple health concerns.

Now, if you’re using products where the ingredients are phthalates and parabens, you should proceed with caution. These ingredients don’t just make up the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG’s) toxic list of chemicals and contaminants in cosmetics, they can disrupt hormones and harm your reproductive system, too.

So, what do these chemicals have to do with infrared saunas? Well, fortunately, by spending time in an infrared sauna you sweat and detox and that helps to remove those nasty toxins from your body.

Want to dial up the detox? Combine a sauna session with a lymphatic massage. Try dry brushing before your sauna session. As Dr. Shilpi Khetarpal, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic, states, “Dry brushing unclogs pores in the exfoliation process. It also helps detoxify your skin by increasing blood circulation and promoting lymph flow/drainage.” (1)

#2: Improves immune system function

Health and wellness are probably at the top of your mind these days and I think all of us would agree that supporting our immune system is the best way to stay well.

But how can you improve your immune system function?

There are a lot of simple ways to do that, including drinking enough water, reducing stress, meditating, and so on. But incorporating sauning is a simple way to improve your immune system function, too. By making it a part of your morning or evening routine, you ensure your body is ready to fight off anything that gets in its way.

#3: Decreases depression and stabilizes moods

Can a sauna really improve mental health? Absolutely. Our bodies produce natural antidepressants – dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin – that give us a feeling of contentment and happiness. By warming the body, infrared saunas help naturally produce these neurochemicals.

The release of these neurochemicals is one of the reasons why exercise is often recommended for depression. But it can be challenging to start exercising when you’re depressed. Not only that, but most people who are experiencing depression are also anxious and stressed. Having a space where they can relax and take their mind off of everything going on is an additional benefit.

#4: Aids heart health and supports other body systems

When you think about heart health, I bet you don’t think about sitting in a sauna and sweating, but sitting in a sauna and sweating is great for your heart.

An infrared sauna session increases heart rate, circulation, and blood flow. It also temporarily lowers blood pressure.

And there is some evidence to support that it’s an effective treatment for congestive heart failure. (2)

According to Dr. Joel Kahn, “Sunlighten saunas are the only infrared saunas clinically shown to temporarily lower blood pressure and reduce belly fat, both contributing factors to a healthy heart.” (3)

Does heart disease run in your family? Do you worry about your heart and the aches and pains you get in your chest and back? Give your heart some love with an infrared sauna.

#5: Promotes healthy aging

Women typically do everything they can to turn back the clock. I mean, just look at the anti-aging market. It continuously profits off of our desire to be forever young with this product and that.

But many factors contribute to the aging process including diet, toxins, and some of those hormone-disrupting chemicals found in cosmetics that we talked about above. So, while it can be exciting to think that this thing or that cream will be the anti-aging fix you need, check the ingredients, watch for toxins, and get an infrared sauna. Because there’s no age reversal potion out there, or at least, not one I’d want to put on my face.

Instead, slow the aging process with a strong immune system and quality sleep – two things the infrared sauna is all about improving.

#6: Improves sleep quality

When your natural circadian rhythms are off, your sleep cycle is affected. Unsurprisingly, it is your hormones that strongly influence your awake and sleep times. Light regulates these hormones, but it isn’t just light that influences your rest. Body temperature is another factor in how well you sleep.

When using an infrared sauna, your body’s temperature rises and then lowers, and the lower temperature signals to your body that it’s time to rest. It’s an excellent reason for an evening sauna session.

With a sauna, a few quiet moments to yourself can provide zen-like relaxation, and who knows, you might not even need the rise and drop in body temperature to fall asleep.

If, however, you find yourself needing extra sleep support, try these tips or grab a bottle of the Zen Sleep supplement solution.

Sauna Best Practices

If you’re new to infrared saunas, start with a 10-minute session and slowly work your way up to 30-minutes. To get the most benefit, use the infrared sauna 3-4 times per week. And if you want to use it more often, you can. Infrared saunas are safe to use daily. (4)

To enhance your session, try diffusing some peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils. The scent will invigorate you and open your mind, making it the perfect time for a quick meditation. Be sure to check out The Essential Oils Hormone Solution or Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils to learn more about how to use essential oils properly.

Using essential oils in the sauna can support your body with whatever you need each day. If you need to relax, you might try lavender. If you’re feeling down and want to shift your mood, opt for one of the citrus oils. For those times when your brain feels scattered and you want to be more grounded and focused, sandalwood or vetiver can usually help.

The last thing I’ll say here is that with this sauna, you’re going to sweat … a lot. So drink plenty of water before and after to stay hydrated.

A Sauna Just For You

Now that you know the benefits of using an infrared sauna, are you going to use one? On a regular basis? Because duration and consistency are really the only way your body will receive what it needs.

That said, finding an infrared sauna that you can use whenever you want and at any time of the day or night, is tricky.

That’s why I recommend getting your own Sunlighten sauna. The Sunlighten sauna company was created by two pharmaceutical associates and now has over 20 years of history supporting health and wellness. Many well-known doctors and health experts recommend them, and they are in the media all over the world.

I’ve done the research and personally tested the sauna for you, and I’m here to say that they’re the best of the best … and you deserve to have one in your life.

Now, saunas aren’t cheap, but they are essential. So, to help cover the cost, Sunlighten is graciously giving anyone who enters the code “DrMariza” a discount of up to $600!

That’s a huge saving, and when I say that this is one of the best things you can do for your body, I’m serious.
